Let's see, other things you might want to know about me (or maybe not...)

Just A Mom
A sculptor, an actor, a dancer, that's me.
I'm vital and young and wild and free.
So many people that I'd like to be.
But never, no never, "just a mom" for me.

I ran oh so quickly from that label so bad.
Would having a baby make me happy or sad?
Searching for ways to make my heart glad
until finally I met him and relaxed, just a tad.

Together we decided to give it a try.
I was scared, I was anxious, I thought I might die.
And then when I saw her I started to cry.
(I wish I'd known then how high we would fly.)

For me it was never easy or fast.
For months I was sure I would live in the past.
"I've ruined my life, the die has been cast."
I wondered how long the mourning would last.

Forever gone was the me I once knew.
I couldn't believe the weight of the blues.
All the dreams that I cherished inside me just flew.
Now "just a mom," whatever would I do?

Then slowly the light I was missing returned.
I started to heal the places that yearned
and struggled to embrace that label I'd spurned.
So great were the many new things I had learned.

I've had the career and the spotlight for years.
I stood up for myself through so many fears.
It took me so long and so many tears
to find this love that is precious and clear.

Now there is magic in every day.
Now she is teaching me how to play.
And really what else is there to say?
At last I embrace it, "Just a mom!" Hooray!

My first job as a graphic artist was working for a balloon company in Brisbane (California not Australia, sadly…) I designed silver mylar balloons like you see in supermarkets and I LOVED every minute of it. I couldn't believe someone wanted to pay me for that! Then, much to my dismay, the company moved to a cornfield 50 miles south of Chicago and, although I was invited to go, my heart was here and I declined.

So I got a job as a part time designer for a laser company in Silicon Valley. I was the thirteenth employee and by the time I left eight years later, I'd become Creative Director of a 10 person team and Marketing Communications Manager for a 1200 person company. I loved the company but after 8 years I was ready for something new. So I quit and went to work for a startup financial products company. (Oh, and discovered I was pregnant 3 weeks later!)

I had the baby and much to my surprise she inspired me to go back to my roots and start sculpting again. Since then I have produced 2 finished bronze sculptures of life-sized babies and I have more ideas and hope to do more in the coming years.

In the meantime, I started to feel like I wanted to produce something more meaningful than corporate catalogs full of black boxes and financial-product websites. So, at age 38, I went back to school to get some assignments that would help round out my portfolio. And in the way of the universe giving you what you need, along came Emma with the Acts of Kindness product line looking for a designer. This is my dream job. Once again I am loving every minute of it and I am so grateful to be a part of something that is joyful and puts good feelings into the world! Thanks Emma!
